IoT is flourishing, but there are a few roadblocks preventing the technology from advancing further and truly thriving. Device management is currently confusing and limiting. Many consumers are tired of throwing out IoT devices that they can no longer realistically use. Devices need to be able to connect to each other in user-friendly ways. Network World said, "When all IoT device and gateway vendors support a plug-and-play, open and secure, standards-based, device management capability (one that is independent of any vendor applications) and application vendors provide a mechanism to easily and securely discover and onboard those devices, then consumer IoT will achieve a new level of maturity and consumers will be able to fully embrace connected devices without the fear of losing their hardware investment."
