Some neat best practices for using horizontal scroll lists in mobile, with some fun new alternatives. Most people scroll vertically on mobile for almost everything, so why incorporate horizontal scrolling? “Horizontal lists work best when you want to display a subset of homogeneous content that’s part of a heterogeneous set.” In other words, “You can scroll horizontally, to see more of a subcategory.You can scroll vertically to see more subcategories.” Examples of these are the Android Play Store and the iTunes app. Design tips in the article include showing visual indicators, incorporating a “see more” button, and designing for responsiveness.
